Nordell Expands Capabilities with the Arrival of Our First Two-Shot Moulding Machine

We’re proud to announce the arrival of our first Two-Shot Moulding machine, a significant milestone in Nordell’s ongoing investment in advanced manufacturing technology.

This is the first of two machines, with a second already on order and scheduled for delivery in 2026. Together, they will expand our capacity and strengthen our ability to deliver innovative, efficient, and high-quality moulding solutions for our customers.

The addition of Two-Shot Moulding enhances Nordell’s position as a trusted partner for high-performance plastic components and supports a growing range of customer requirements across industrial, consumer, medical, and automotive sectors.

Nordell Managing Director, Paul Mason, said: “This exciting investment reflects our commitment to innovation and productivity, enabling us to provide optimal technical solutions aligned with our customers’ needs, both now and in the future.

“Two-Shot Moulding enhances our ability to deliver high-performance components efficiently and reliably, even as product requirements become more complex.”

This step forward demonstrates Nordell’s ongoing focus on understanding the evolving needs of our customers and delivering long-term value through technical excellence and innovation.

What Is Two-Shot Moulding?

Two-Shot Moulding, also known as twin-shot or multi-shot injection moulding, is an advanced manufacturing process that allows two different materials or colours to be moulded into a single component during one continuous cycle.

The process involves two separate injections of material into a single mould. The first material forms the base or main structure of the part, while the second material is injected to form additional features or layers. This method can combine rigid and flexible materials, create multi-coloured products, or introduce functional enhancements such as soft-touch grips, seals, or complex design elements that would otherwise require assembly or a separate over-moulding process.

By removing the need for multiple moulding and assembly stages, Two-Shot Moulding delivers superior efficiency, precision, and consistency.

The Benefits of Two-Shot Moulding

Our new Two-Shot Moulding capability brings a range of benefits to both Nordell and our customers:

    • Design Versatility: Combine rigid and flexible materials, add seals or grips, and integrate multi-colour finishes.
    • Superior Material Fusion: The second material fuses directly with the first while still warm, creating a durable, integrated part.
    • Reduced Assembly & Handling: Parts are produced complete, reducing labour and potential defects.
    • Improved Efficiency: A single automated process minimises waste and speeds up production.
    • Sustainability Advantage: Fewer steps and less material waste make it a cleaner, more efficient process.

Looking Ahead

Our engineering and production teams are already preparing for the first projects to be manufactured using this exciting new equipment.

Two-Shot Moulding opens the door to new design possibilities and more efficient manufacturing pathways, and we look forward to sharing the results in the months to come.

At Nordell, we continue to invest in the people, processes, and technologies that make a difference. The arrival of our first Two-Shot Moulding machine, and the second scheduled for 2026, represents another important step on our journey of growth and innovation, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of precision plastic moulding in the UK.
