Investing In The Future Of Our Company & Our Environment

The amount of sunlight that strikes the earth's surface in an hour and a half is enough to handle the entire world's energy consumption for a full year!! Solar technologies convert sunlight into electrical energy either through photovoltaic (PV) panels or through mirrors that concentrate solar radiation.

With the UK aiming to reach net zero by 2050, a crucial part of the strategy is to transition to an electricity system with 100% zero-carbon generation and much of this is expected to come from renewable energy. In the UK Gas provides 42.6% of electricity generation by Major Power Producers, with renewables at 40.5%, nuclear at 14.5% and coal at 1.6%.

The cost of energy has significantly increased, so investing in a renewable, solar energy source not only has a huge impact on our environmental footprint, but also on our costs to manufacture.

Harnessing Renewable Energy

At Nordell, our philosophy is to continuously invest in the future and remain at the forefront of advances in technology, especially where we can reduce our impact on the environment.

800 Solar Panels installed across our 4 manufacturing units at our Worthing, West Sussex factory generate 270KW of energy accelerating our journey towards a more sustainable future! Solar energy provides around 30% of our energy requirements with a further 42,000KWH of excess exported onto the National Grid when our energy production exceeds our demand.

We are based in Worthing, West Sussex, which is recognised as the sunniest county in the UK with the western part of Sussex in particular receiving the highest sunshine levels, averaging 1,902 hours per year! Installation of Solar power made good environmental and commercial sense, despite the UK having a fairly low level of sunshine hours compared to some of our European neighbours.

Investing in #SolarPanels is one of many green initiatives to reduce our energy usage, including replacing a number of our older moulding machines with more energy-efficient electric machines and installing sensors and timers on key electrical items.
