Environmental Auditing

We may not have won an Earthshot Prize, however, we constantly strive to manufacture in a way that has the least impact on our environment.

Last week we had our annual ISO14001 Environmental audit, retaining our ISO14001 status.

What is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems (EMS) and the most widely used EMS in the world, with over 360,000 ISO 14001 certificates issued globally.

ISO 14001 is the principal management system standard which specifies the requirements for the formulation and maintenance of an EMS. This helps to control your environmental aspects, reduce impacts, and ensure legal compliance.

We all have a huge part to play to ensure we tread lightly on the environment.

Some of the activities our team have carried out to reduce our footprint bon the environment include:

  • Waste reduction programme with targets to reduce manufacturing scrap rates
  • Reducing scrap through process mapping and training to ensure we get more right first time.
  • Recycling scrap by regrinding it either for reuse or collection by a commercial plastic recycler.
  • Working with our customers and suppliers to develop materials and product solutions that have a reduced environmental impact.
  • Switching to electric moulding machines to reduce energy consumption by up to 70%.
  • Reducing energy consumption through replacement of our factory lighting with LED and motion sensors and by monitoring our power consumption
  • Enclosed refrigeration system
  • Electricity monitoring programme
  • Sourcing of materials from approved REACH and RoHS accredited suppliers
  • Recycling of office waste
  • Annual beach clean locally

With more and more customers insisting the goods they buy are environmentally friendly, it’s never been more important to work with manufacturing partners who are committed to sustainability. Nordell are ISO14001 accredited and committed to manufacturing to protocols which improve sustainability through an effective environmental management system.

Speak with our technical team if you are looking at more sustainable materials for your project, including Bioplastics.

REPAIRING OUR PLANET, The Earthshot Prize

The Earthshot Prize is the most ambitious and prestigious of its kind – designed to incentivise change and help to repair our planet over the next ten years.

Taking inspiration from President John F. Kennedy’s Moonshot which united millions of people around an organising goal to put man on the moon and catalysed the development of new technology in the 1960s, The Earthshot Prize is centred around five ‘Earthshots’ – simple but ambitious goals for our planet which, if achieved by 2030, will improve life for us all, for generations to come.
