Going Green: The Sustainability of Injection Moulding at Nordell

As a leading injection moulding company, Nordell has always been committed to producing high-quality plastic products while minimising our impact on the environment.

Sustainability has long been a key focus for us, and we have implemented various measures to ensure our operations are as environmentally friendly as possible.

This blog post will outline our various steps at Nordell to help contribute to a greener future.

Environmental Commitment: Our Guiding Principle

At Nordell, our environmental commitment is at the core of everything we do.

We understand the importance of sustainable practices and strive to integrate them into our operations.

From the materials we use to the energy sources we rely on, we are continuously working to reduce our carbon footprint and safeguard the planet for future generations.

Green Materials and Bio-Plastics

One way Nordell promotes sustainability is through the trialling, recommendation to our customers and use of green materials and bioplastics.

We actively seek out environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional plastics and make our customers aware of alternative solutions whenever possible.

These materials are sourced responsibly from renewable resources, and we only offer them to our customers as a potential replacement where there is a comparable performance to their conventional counterparts.

By embracing green materials and bioplastics, we are reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and supporting the development of a circular economy.

Electric Moulding Machines: Harnessing Clean Energy

Another significant step we have taken towards sustainability is the adoption of electric moulding machines.

These machines are powered by electricity instead of traditional hydraulic systems, resulting in lower energy consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

We minimise our environmental impact by utilising clean energy sources and contribute to the overall transition to a more sustainable energy infrastructure.

Waste Management: Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling

Nordell understands the importance of proper waste management in achieving sustainability goals.

We have implemented comprehensive waste management strategies that prioritise reducing, reusing, and recycling materials throughout our manufacturing processes.

We are actively contributing to a more circular and sustainable economy by minimising the waste we produce and recycling through commercial plastics recyclers if any waste material cannot be reused internally.

Solar Energy: Powering Our Operations

Renewable energy plays a vital role in our commitment to sustainability.

We have installed solar panels across our facilities at Nordell to harness the sun's power.

These solar panels generate clean, renewable energy that powers our operations, reducing our reliance on non-renewable sources and decreasing our carbon emissions.

By investing in solar energy, we are taking a proactive approach to sustainable manufacturing.

Reduce Our Energy Usage: Only Use What We Need

It is very easy to forget that energy use, regardless of its source, significantly impacts our Carbon Footprint. We strive to ONLY use what energy we need by understanding where we use it!

Many years ago, Nordell replaced all of its lighting with LED, reducing the energy used for lighting. Our lighting is connected to PIR sensors, switching off our lighting when it is not required. This means that some arm waving may be required on the odd occasion if you have not moved enough to be detected. No snoozing!

All of our key electrical devices, such as driers and heaters, have timers attached to them to ensure we only use equipment when needed.

Waste not, want not!

Manufacturing for the Environmental Sector

We understand the importance of supporting the growth of the environmental sector and its impact on sustainability.

Nordell actively collaborates and partners with companies that contribute to environmental preservation through their products and their organisation's green philosophy and environmental targets.

By manufacturing products specifically designed for the environmental sector, we contribute to the development of sustainable solutions and promote a greener future.

Summary

At Nordell, sustainability is not just a buzzword but a core value that drives our operations.

We are dedicated to integrating sustainable practices into every aspect of our business, from the materials we use to the energy sources we rely on.

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future by adopting green materials, electric moulding machines, efficient waste management, solar energy, and manufacturing for the environmental sector.

We recognise that we can always do more as we continue our sustainability journey.

Nordell will remain at the forefront of innovative and eco-friendly practices in the injection moulding industry.

We invite you to join us on this journey towards a greener, more sustainable world.

Together, we can make a difference.
