Nordell's Head Of HR Reflects On A Busy Year

We believe in our people, and we are one team – Emma Penn proudly heads up our Human Resources at Nordell, and this month looks back on a busy year:

 

As a growing business the role of HR has evolved. However, the need for this to be a very personal role to keep the culture that we have worked so hard to achieve stays at the forefront of our HR focus.

 

A year ago Nordell had over 60 employees working Monday to Friday. Fast track to today and the company now employs more than 190 people, 24/7, across 4 shifts!

 

The pace of growth in such a short period of time has been incredible, but also extremely challenging. One of our biggest challenges was dealing with a factory change programme that saw Nordell add 300m2 of Cleanroom and pretty much reorganise all our factory space. We then added 4,000sqft of warehouse space in March 2021. And the end of November 2021 will see us add a further 6,500 of space to be used as a satellite logistics hub.

 

I think the biggest challenge by far has been recruiting, training and inducting over 100 new employees into the Nordell business. Over half our team has been employed by Nordell for less than a year! Of course, we had to review all of our structures, and put in place a team of managers, supervisors and team leaders across all shifts, day and night!

 

With the Nordell team now larger than it has ever been before - and shifts extending to 24/7 cover – my team has also expanded. I’ve been delighted to welcome Clair Mason and Pratikchha Pun to help ensure managers and our employees are fully supported.

 

Our focus is to support each other; this is also one of our company’s core values and is considered when making all Nordell decisions. During these unprecedented times of great uncertainty, our team has been a fantastic support to each other. The morale of the people who come into the business each day and continue to manufacture for our key customers has not wavered and this makes our culture something to be immensely proud of. It makes me proud to work for a great business employing great people. There is no amount of thanks I can provide to Team Nordell that would be enough.

 

Nordell has 3 key business objectives for 2022. They are all important, however there will be a huge focus on our employees, with a business objective to “Empower and support the Nordell team to achieve the company and personal goals”.

 

The Nordell business is set for growth again in 2022, however not at the rate we have experienced in 2021! Nordell is still looking to recruit new people in a number of roles.
